Izaak Walton League records, 1902-1996, 1970-1990.

The majority of the material comes from the files of Jack Lorenz, Executive Director and editor, and Maitland Sharpe, Conservation Director. Correspondence and documents from previous executive and conservation directors include: Raymond C. Hubley, Jr., Robert Herbst, and J.W. Penfold. Significant conservation initiatives documented in the collection include: Save Our Streams, Outdoor Ethics, The Clean Water Act and the National Water Pollution Control Act. Channelization and dredging are issues dealt with at some length especially concerning the Upper Mississippi River and the Locks and Dam No. 26. Preservation of public lands in National Parks, National Forests, Wilderness areas, streams, coastlines and wetlands were also a significant focus of the Leagues activities. Other materials come from the League's work with the Bureau of Land Management, the International Conference on Outdoor Ethics, grazing, mining, energy, timber sales and soil conservation.
